Not everyone is fortunate enough to find their true calling in university. But Natalia did. The pivotal moment came in her third year when she took the Minor in Entrepreneurship. “I met many like-minded people, and it opened many doors for me, like the clubs and extra programmes in school that I joined, such as being a committee member of the Junior World Entrepreneurship Forum in 2016,” she says.

Her single-minded focus made the decision to join the DBS Graduate Associate Programme an easy one, even though she received three job offers. The appeal was the programme’s emphasis on small and medium-sized enterprises like start-ups.

“For most humanities students, banking may not seem like a natural career path. However, I’ve realised that banks also value the diversity in thought and knowledge that graduates of different disciplines bring, so this is the ideal first job for me,” she explains.

The first few years in university were tough for Natalia, as she had to transition from studying business in Singapore Polytechnic to social science in NTU while pursuing her interest in entrepreneurship, but her hard work has paid off handsomely. “I am now able to understand and apply business concepts, and my writing and negotiation skills have also improved. I believe this combination of social science and business knowledge gives me a competitive edge,” she says.
