Lawis starts his career as a Management Associate at Sea, the fast-expanding internet platform company formerly known as Garena. But, despite calling it his first job, he’s actually worked at six other companies while in NTU, gaining experience in a variety of industries.

“The first internship was purely for the sake of earning money to support myself,” explains Lawis.

“But it taught me that I was far from capable enough to match my ambitions. The second was a degree requirement. After that internship, I had a better idea of what I wanted to do in future. Subsequent internships were driven by a hunger to find my passion, learn from amazing people, and develop myself.”

Revealing that he received job offers from five of the six companies he interned at, Lawis credits Rocket Internet and DBS as where he had the most positive experiences.

“I was given the opportunity to do transformative work that impacted the entire business and to learn from senior management. But this doesn’t downplay the importance of what I learnt in the other companies.”

Buffing up his already loaded resume is his participation and victories in case competitions for NTU, including five championship titles.

“I went to Bentley University in Boston for exchange and took part in a case competition there. I was up against MBA candidates from various universities including Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and won it with luck and determination.”
