NTU ranked world’s best young university for 5th straight year

The university also took podium places in other leagues to watch for
by Peter Yeo

High five! For the fifth straight year, NTU Singapore has been named the world’s best young university in Quacquarelli Symonds’ (QS) ranking of global universities 50 years old or younger. Earlier in June, NTU was placed 12th in QS’ World University Rankings, which assesses more than 1,000 institutions based on performance indicators such as research, teaching, employability and internationalisation. In that ranking, which influences QS’ young university rankings, NTU jumped 11 places to rank 46th in research impact – the highest among Singapore universities – and it also performed well in the academic reputation indicator, rising 12 positions to be placed 38th globally.

“It is a tremendous achievement for NTU Singapore to be crowned the world’s best young university for the fifth consecutive year in the QS Top 50 Under 50 Ranking. In the world university league table, NTU also stands among the world’s very best in the top 12 despite being the youngest in that cohort. We owe our rise to the talent and commitment of our faculty and staff, as well as our academic and administrative leadership team.”
- NTU President Professor Subra Suresh
“As NTU continues to reiterate its highly successful transformation from a primarily engineering-focused university to a more diverse, international institution, it will be difficult for the ambitious young universities below it to displace it at the top of the rankings.”
– Mr Ben Sowter, Research Director of QS
