Healing with a twist

If you’re going for surgery in future, don’t be alarmed if the incision isn’t a straight one. In fact, wavy or zig-zag incisions have been observed to heal quicker than straight ones, a phenomenon that has puzzled the medical world – until now.

NTU scientists have found that wavy wounds heal nearly five times faster than straight ones due to the complex cell movement induced in them. This not only sheds light on patient recovery time, but contributes to strategies on minimising scarring as well.
