Font-tastic victory: Talking typefaces

What if the blind could experience typography the way we do? Fonts evoke certain moods and emotions. With “Talking Typefaces”, a trio of communication students proposed using artificial intelligence to pair Google fonts with distinct voices, which would enhance text-to-speech with varied tones. This innovative concept clinched two Golds and Best of Show at the Crowbar Awards, a major competition for young creatives. Other NTU teams, comprising Communication Studies, as well as Art, Design & Media students, also excelled, with one other team securing a Gold award.

The minds behind Talking Typefaces – Seth Low, Philip Ong and Vernice Chua. Seth and Philip were in the cohort that travelled to the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in 2022 as part of their advertising module.
