How we used AI
We tested ChatGPT’s ability to “read” photos and caption them in our usual house style.
😊: Creative captions came fast and furious, but these were often flowery and did not make much sense. Some phrases reappeared too often and prompting was needed to stop the use of exclamation marks. ChatGPT offered refreshing perspectives that made editing captions more productive at times.
🤔: ChatGPT could identify some obvious elements in the photos such as pink flowers in the one of the Chinese Heritage Centre, but it couldn’t identify exact locations. It often failed to see textures other than glass surfaces. Extensive prompting was needed to turn empty word play into meaningful or relatable captions that went beyond merely describing facades.
😖: Word counts and requests to use sentence case were ignored.
